About the Author
Bonnie Solino based her series - Johan Adventures - on her experiences and knowledge of Norway and its wonderful people, who gave her the color and characters of her book. While living in Western Pennsylvania, she and her family hosted a fun loving, energetic Norwegian exchange student for one amazing year. While sharing her American lifestyle with her new daughter, Bonnie discovered a different culture, too. She became fascinated with Norway and its traditions. She has traveled to Norway to several times to visit her new daughter and her family. There she experienced warm, welcoming people and their beautiful country, first hand.
Born in Rockland County, New York, the young Bonnie enjoyed writing and directing plays in her parent’s backyard. After college, she served as a VISTA volunteer in the Ozarks. Then, returning home with a VISTA fiancé, she married, moved to Brooklyn, NY, and later had a son and daughter.
She continued to write, but as life happened, she grew into many roles. As Jill-of–All-Trades, she was a travel agent in NYC, packed peas in a mill in Missouri, worked for a computer company, counted money in the vault rooms of two major department stores, and was a substitute teacher.
When living in western Pennsylvania, she taught herself to install plumbing for the geodesic dome that she, her husband, and young son designed and built. Once settled she became the active president of the PTO at her son’s school. Then, the Red Cross sent her to Louisiana to give disaster relief for several weeks, after Katrina.
After Pennsylvania, Bonnie moved around the United States with her husband and his job. In Florida, she began creating an online show for children, for which she had written many short stories. When one of those shorts took on a life of its own, Johan And The Secret Cave was a born.
Bonnie has since put away her copy of “How to do Basic Plumbing” and now calls in a professional. Instead, she enjoys her characters and their many adventures..
Recently, she has added a second novel, Johan And The Secret Storm, to her series.
Bonnie lives in Florida with her husband of…holy cow. How many years?
Her Ozark stint was a great and humbling experience. Along with the rewards of assisting people in a different economic and cultural lifestyle, she met her future husband also a Vista Volunteer.
She is the proud mother of Jayson, who as her tech guru and design consultant, has a creative “think out side of the box” mind that inspires her.
Her fun loving, energetic foreign exchange “daughter” from Norway is now a teacher and the mother of four active children.
As a child, she was surrounded with wonderful, loving friends and family. One of her fondest memories is sitting on the kitchen counter of Burgess Meredith of “Rocky” movie fame and eating a big bowl of ice cream.
She spent many of her early years writing poems and short stories. Most were lost to the purging that she did during multiple moves with her husband’s career to New York, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, California, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Florida.
When her son attended the Mars Area School District that gave her the opportunity to bring the world to him and his friends. She wrote to Mikhail Gorbachev and George H.W. Bush requesting a cosmonaut and an astronaut for a “Mission to Mars.” Russian cosmonaut, Sergei Krikalev and American astronaut, Mario Russo provided an informative and fun week for the students and families of the area through the MAFEE (Mars Area Foundation for Education Excellence).
